Salazar plans comeback

Joseph Salazar (5-4, 3 KOs), of Albuquerque, is making a comeback to the ring after an eight-year layoff. Tapia release shot down

The New Mexico Supreme Court has shot down a petition from Johnny Tapia to be released from prison. Originally, Tapia had been sentenced to nine days in prison but when the period was up, the state Corrections department refused to release the former champ on the basis of an unapproved parole plan. J/Os set for the weekend

The New Mexico Junior Olympics state championships will be held May 1st and 2nd (3rd, if needed). Weigh-ins are at 7 a.m. to 10 Friday and Saturday and at 8 a.m. Sunday, if needed. Sky Ute wrap-up

The Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio, Colo. has already booked their next two boxing dates. Their next show is scheduled for July 18, followed by Sept. 5. Alderete calls out Enriquez, Filerio

Las Cruces amateur card a success

The USA Boxing-sanctioned amateur fight card at the Las Cruces PAL Gym in Las Cruces Saturday night came off as a success. Eighteen scheduled bouts were pulled off before a sold-out crowd.
