Villa still wants Escalante

The attempts to match up Antonio Escalante, of El Paso, and Tomas Villa, of Odessa, Texas, might’ve fallen through, but Villa says he’s willing to face El Paso’s hope-for-a-world-champion at a future date. The latest WBC ratings, out this morning, include the following local fighters: At 154, Austin Trout, who should crack the WBA’s top ten when they release their latest, is No. 22; At 122, El Paso’s Antonio Escalante (highly rated in the other ABCs), is No. 18; and El Paso heavyweight David Rodriguez is No. 32. Boxing returns to Juarez!

Boxing will return to Juarez on Oct. 17 when Promociones del Pueblo will stage the first big card to hit the bordertown since December 2007.
