Former contender Frankie Archuleta is back in the gym and training with Team Old School at the Jack Candelaria Community Center. Not only is Archuleta in shape, says trainer Manuel Anaya, but he’s weighs in at 134 – in his sweats.
Speaking of Team Old School, Yordan Hernandez-Perez will be debuting this weekend at the Ohkay Casino. His opponent is Denver’s John Grimaldo (2-0, 1 KO).
After Lucas Galle pulled out of the March 6 fight with Carlos “El Gallo” Sanchez, a new opponent has been secured in Jeremiah “Jet” Torres. Torres, 7-16 (1), has now lost nine in a row.
Albuquerque’s Hector “Hurricane” Munoz (18-2-1, 11 KOs) will end a year-and-a-half layoff on April 3 when he faces undefeated Mike Alvarado (26-0, 18 KOs) in Corpus Christi in a ten-rounder.
El Paso heavyweight David “Nino” Rodriguez (32-0, 30 KOs) is back in action on March 27 in Monterrey, Mexico. Opponent TBA.
Randy “Savage” Arrellin (2-2, 1 KO), victim of a TKO in his bout, will face Salvador Zamora (4-2, 2 KOs) of Albuquerque on the March 26 Isleta card.
Albuquerque’s Archie Ray Marquez (10-0, 7 KOs) returns to action May 14 at the Chumash in Santa Ynez, Calif.
