About New Mexico Boxing
NewMexicoBoxing.com was created by journalist Chris Cozzone in 2000. At the time, boxing in New Mexico, El Paso and Juarez received very little coverage but for the occasional Johnny Tapia or Danny Romero story in the daily papers. Through the years, as fighters, promoters and, even newspapers, have come and gone, the website has remained one of the very few constants in the local fight scene.
While covering the local scene, Cozzone has also, since 2000, covered the bigger fights, from Las Vegas, Nev., Los Angeles, throughout Texas and Mexico. His writing and photography appears in magazines worldwide and on Fightnews.com, under whose banner he’s worked since 2000.
For five years, Cozzone also ran a weekly boxing column in the Albuquerque Tribune before the newspaper folded, in 2008, and is part-owner of Fightwireimages.com, a worldwide supplier of fight photos. He is also hard at work on an extensive book on the boxing history of New Mexico, a project inherited from longtime journalist and boxing figure, the late Jim Boggio. Volume One of “The History of Boxing in New Mexico,” is due out by McFarland Press in 2012.
NewMexicoBoxing.com also has on staff Gerardo Martinez, Jose Leon Castillo and Ricardo Trujillo.
