The weigh-in for tomorrow night’s “Warzone” card, headlining George Foreman III, will be held today at 5 p.m. in Las Cruces, at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces.
The Warriors Boxing Club is back from Mesquite, Nev., where several fighters competed in the National Jr. Golden Gloves tourney. Diego Bautista, 145 lbs., fought an outstanding back-and-forth battle with a California fighter, losing a decision; At 125, Isidro Castillo won the first night, blowing out a Texas fighter, but lost by TKO to a boxer from London; Brandon Munoz was defeated by California’s Andrew Abeita, surviving a knockdown and a drag-out war only to lose a close decision; At 65 lbs., Francisco Tetewahh fought well but lost by decision; Ricky Medel got a bye the first night, then, while dressing up for finals, his opponent from Texas pulled out with an injury.
Tougher drug testing may be on the way for N.M. fighters. Three MMA fighters got popped in random drug testing conducted in last weekend’s show at the Convention Center.
