Boxing returned to war-torn Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, last night with a classic thriller between returning favorite Javier “Zorro” Castro (22-2, 18 KOs) and former contender Edgar Barcenas (21-9-4, 15 KOs), of Mexico City. The fight went back and forth for 12 non-stop rounds, Castro’s big punches occasionally staggering the much busier, body-punching veteran. Judges saw it 115-113 twice and 115-114 for Castro, who won the WBC Fecombox superlightweight title, while Fightnews had it 116-112 for Barcenas.  The Promociones del Pueblo card co-featured another title fight that saw Juarez’s Eduardo “Chucky” Lazcano (15-1, 8 KOs) destroying Lizandro De Los Santos (8-3, 3 KOs), of Los Mochis, Mexico, with body shots, with a fifth round (1:45) knockout. The WBC Fecombox superbantamweight title was at stake. Other results: In an eight-rounder at superflyweight, Chihuahua near-contender Victor “Nene” Zaleta (11-1, 6 KOs) stopped Ricardo “Rocky” Armento (9-2-1, 4 KOs), of Sonora, Mex., in the opening minute of round three; Former world champion Cesar “Cobrita” Soto (60-18-3, 41 KOs), was on his way to losing a decision when he kayoed Angel “Acertijo” Reyna (9-3-1, 4 KOs), also of Juarez, at 1:17 of round six. Stay tuned for a full report and photo gallery later today.
