Coca-Gallegos up to the Mirabal challenge

At 0-2, Michael Coca-Gallegos may not have the prettiest record, but he’s coming prepared Friday night to give Vincent “Li’l Man” Mirabal (4-0, 1 KO) his toughest fight yet.

“I didn’t get into to this to build a nice record,” Coca-Gallegos said at today’s press conference. “I did it because it’s what I do. I like the challenge. Fighting easy opponents isn’t an option for me.”

In his debut, last August, Gallegos was stopped by Chase Corbin, who is now 2-0. Two months later, he took on 2-0 Lawrence Hughes, losing by TKO in round three. Despite the two setbacks, Coca-Gallegos did not hesitate to fight yet another undefeated fighter, in Mirabal.

“Vince is tough,” says Coca-Gallegos, who trains at the Albuquerque PAL under Florey Olguin and, for this fight, with the help of former amateur star Kelcie Banks. “I’ve sparred with him, but never fought him. I see his skill but I’m prepared to give him a good fight.”
