Heyman eyes rematch with Alderete

If you thought the bad blood was over between “Mad” Max Heyman and “Mad” Mike Alderete, think again. “If I were Mike, I’d want to prove his critics wrong – that he can beat a two-handed fighter,” says Heyman, who attributes his split decision loss to a busted hand. “I’m not saying I won that fight – but I didn’t lose it, either,” says Heyman. “I don’t feel I was robbed, but I believe a rematch will show everyone what I’ve been saying all along – that this is, basically, an easy fight for me. Mike doesn’t hit hard and I was not hurt once in the fight.”

Motivation for a rematch goes beyond erasing the loss on his record, says Heyman. “It’s still personal. What can I say? The guy is an idiot and he’s said some very disturbing things, trying to make this into a race issue. My wife is from Mexico – I resent his claims. A ‘low-life cholo?’ I’ve never called him that, but if that’s what he wants to call himself, fine. As for bringing Lee Montoya into the discussion – I have never had anything but respect for Lee. I’ve always admired him. I don’t know where that comes from. Race has no place in the ring; that’s what I’ve always believed.

“I just want a rematch and think it will happen. I might not like the man, but Mike did come to fight. I appreciate that, and admire that. I take nothing away from him – he brought the fight to me and that’s awesome. Let’s do it again.”
