Las Cruces amateur card a success
The USA Boxing-sanctioned amateur fight card at the Las Cruces PAL Gym in Las Cruces Saturday night came off as a success. Eighteen scheduled bouts were pulled off before a sold-out crowd.
The best fight of the night went to newcomers Alexandra Villaloba, of Las Cruces, and Joanna De La Rosa, of El Paso. The fight was an extremely close one but Alexandra won a close decision on points. Both fighters were very impressive and look at having a very good amateur career in the future.
The main event showcased boxers Ayanna Vasquez, of Las Cruces, and Deneisha Lopez, of Roswell. The always flashy and hard-hitting Vasquez outhustled a very game Lopez to win a unanimous decision in front of her hometown crowd.
Coach Ric Ponce, from Omega Fight Team, and all the coaches of Las Cruces PAL would like to thank all the teams that came out and supported their first USA Boxing bouts of the season.
Special thanks goes out to Sam DiPace, Rick Vasquez, Tom Benavidez, Dr. Taylor, the members of the entire PAL board, the city of Las Cruces, Bill Dasch and Crystal Archuleta for putting on such an outstanding show. – Ric Ponce
