Maldonado wins in LA

From Club Nokia in Los Angeles: Fight for the first time under new promoter, Golden boy Promotions, Albuquerque lightweight Fidel “The Atrisco Kid” Maldonado rose to 5-0 (5 KOs) with a first-round knockout of 35-year-old Georgian John Willoughby (2-6, 1 KO). The end came at 1:25, when Referee Raul Caiz stopped the fight on behalf of Willoughby’s corner. Willoughby had been staggered by several big lefts when the stoppage occurred.
