Marquez update

A “learning experience” is how Archie Ray Marquez, now 9-0, 7 KOs, is describing last night’s fight with veteran Andres Ledesma, 15-16-1, 10 KOs. Suffering a dislocated right knuckle in round two and a twisted ankle from a slip to the canvas in the following round, Marquez gained valuable experience in overcoming obstacles last night, said manager Jacob Maes, who gave his fighter four of six rounds. “He moved and ran from Archie,” said Maes. “Stylewise, it was a difficult fight, but it was good for Archie. We had him in trouble in the late rounds, but the knuckle prevented a knockout punch.” Maes said the minor injuries should clear up in the next two weeks and a January bout is not in jeopardy.

Marquez is on his way back to Albuquerque today. On Monday, a press conference held on the first floor of the Albuquerque Downs at 12:30 will officially announce Marquez’s next fight, Jan. 29 at Tingley Coliseum.
