Matchmaker responds to Garvin-Harvison account

Bobby Dobbs, matchmaker for Tony Holden Promotions, for Thursday night’s fight card in Tulsa, Okla., wasn’t exactly thrilled reading Robert Padilla’s account of the fight, posted this morning.

A rebuttal, which includes Dobbs’ account and view of the fight is as follows:

“I was the matchmaker of the event. It is a shame that such a tremendous fight is marred by Padilla’s biased and untrue account of the fight. This was one of the best female fights I have ever seen. These two girls stood toe to toe for four rounds and at the end of the fight the crowd chanting, “One more round! One more round!” gave both fighters a standing ovation.

“If it had been as lopsided as Mr. Padilla’s account then no one would have cared.

“The fact of the matter is, for the first two rounds Harvison outlanded Garvin and clearly was the stronger puncher of the two. Garvin, however, never quit coming and Harvison tired badly in round three. Round four saw both fighters tired but they gave everything they had left, with a slight edge going to Garvin.

“All three judges scored the fight exactly the same: Rounds 1 and 2 to Harvison. Rounds 3 and 4 to Garvin.

“There was no controversy. In fact, the feeling in that place was it was the best fight of the night and that the two girls gave the place something special.

“In a week I will have a video of the fight, which I will make available to NewMexicoBoxing.com, so  you can all see what a ‘fair and balanced’ account of the fight Robert Padilla gave.”
