According to word received from Team Tapia, that not only will Johnny Tapia be released sometime in January, but he will be fighting on his birthday in February, headlining an MMA card at the Ohkay Casino, outside Espanola, N.M.

Light-heavyweight Michael Brooks has relocated to Las Cruces, to train under Louie Burke at the PAL Gym. Brooks, slated to fight Dec. 4 on the Holm-Hernandez bill, has been sparring with Austin Trout and Abie Han.

Updates for the Nov. 6 card in Garden City, Ks., include the following: Raymond “Hollywood” Montes (1-1, 1 KO) will be facing Arkansas debuter Yvson Celestin; Las Cruces’ Lorenzo Estrada (3-15-1, 1 KO) will be fighting the main event, against 135-pounder Brandon Rios (22-0-1, 16 KOs); welterweights Bernardo Guereca (15-8-1, 3 KOs), of El Paso, and Joe Gomez (16-2-1, 8 KOs), of Bloomfield, are still slated to go eight in the co-main; lightweight Leticia Guerrero, a debuter, will face Santa Fe’s Clara De La Torre (1-7-1, 1 KO); and Albuquerque’s Victoria Cisneros (3-7-2) takes on Arkansas debuter Sade Matlock.
