New Mexico Boxing Beat

Looks like there was another  possible pro/possibly amateur, most likely unsanctioned boxing card in Shiprock, N.M. Saturday night promoted by Thaddine Swifteagle-Johnson and her company, Red Fist Promotions. Three boxing matches and a handful of Muay Thai bouts were staged, with Swifteagle-Johnson knocking out her nameless opponent at :28 of round one. All the bouts were announced as “exhibitions” and went three two-minute rounds – except for Johnson’s fight, which was conducted without headgear.

Only one judge scored this weekend’s Felix Sturm-Mathew Macklin fight right in German: Las Cruces judge Levi Martinez had it 115-113 while the other two judges had it for the hometown favorite, Sturm, 116-112.

We hear Hector Munoz had a bit of homecooking against him in South Carolina this weekend, in a bout against Ayi Bruce. According to at least two spectators, a series of low blows were overlooked by the local referee during the fight.

Our 1,000th fan on Facebook will receive a free 8×10 photo – any shot taken by Chris Cozzone, N.M. or otherwise, is up for grabs!
