It was standing room only Saturday night at Rosales Boxing/Kickboxing gym in Los Lunas, NM. Quite a few fans had to watch the action through the blinds from outside. And there was a lot it. Not to mention the small ring, which left little space for fighters to run and more space for the action. The card included seven amateur boxing matches and four kickboxing matches, including two AKBA NM State titles on the line. The event included the dedication of the ring to the memory of Barbara Cano, a former student of Rosales, who died in a car accident on January 30, 2011 while attending college at UCSD.
In the main event Shaun “The Warrior” Henson took home the NM State AKBA title by split decision against Las Cruces’ Gabe Lopez. Lopez started out fast, but ran out of steam in the last couple of rounds of the five round battle. The co-main was a rematch from a month ago between Rosales’ Dorian Dixon and Mean1′s Jorge Garcia, this time the NM State AKBA title was up for grabs. Last time the two men met it was Garcia who took home the ‘W’ by split decision, this time around it would be Dixon who would take the split decision win and the title. Check out undercard results.
