Sanchez takes the Dennison challenge!

Posted on 13 October 2009   News flash

Jessica “Diamond” Sanchez (0-1-1) of Albuquerque has a new foe for the Oct. 24th Mirabal card at Sky City Casino, N.M. Replacing Serino Pino (1-0) will be upset-minded Nohime Dennison (1-0), from the Jackson/Winkeljohn Gym. Dennison shocked the Las Vegas, N.M. crowd in August when she spoiled the pro debut of local favorite Amanda Crespin (0-1) by a four-round decision.

In addition, Sanchez’s trainer, Fernando Calleros, has responded to Bernie Sanchez’s “idiot” comment yesterday. “I personally think she [Dennison] is a heavier and better fighter than the previous one matched up [Pino], but that’s what we do. In my camp, you better have chopped off a leg if you’re not going to fight a contracted, signed and set event.”

Furthermore, Calleros has been taken back by Sanchez’s “idiot” and “pro boxing” comments, adding, “When a pro fighter backs out of a fight and there is no clear reason why, I don’t see the harm in asking for a doctor’s note and a suspension, if a valid one is not produced. All I was told was, ‘She is bleeding too much and cannot fight.’ I asked three times what ‘bleeding too much’ means.” Calleros got no response and, before he knew it, he was being called “Mr. Idiot.” “This all seems childish, but I  I would like it known that Jessica Sanchez and myself wish Serina Pino the best and our prayers if she is in the emergency room. I would not like to see any fighter in any fighting sport sent to the emergency room . .. We had no idea it was serious, but maybe if Bernie had elaborated a little bit more, as to the severity, this would never have happened … I extend my hand out and apologize to Mr. Bernie Sanchez if I disrespected him or Pino. It was not my intention.”
