Tapia release shot down
The New Mexico Supreme Court has shot down a petition from Johnny Tapia to be released from prison. Originally, Tapia had been sentenced to nine days in prison but when the period was up, the state Corrections department refused to release the former champ on the basis of an unapproved parole plan.
