Trout a contender now

The latest WBA ratings, released today, have rated Las Cruces’ Austin Trout at No. 2 in their 154-pound division. Just one slot below Yuri Foreman; the champion is Daniel Santos, Trout is rated ahead of Alfred Angulo (No. 4) and Vanes Martirosyan (No. 13), whom Trout lost to at the Olympic box-offs in 2004.

Also rated: At heavyweight, David Rodriguez, of El Paso, is No. 13; El Paso’s Antonio Escalante is No. 1 at 122.
