Villa still wants Escalante
The attempts to match up Antonio Escalante, of El Paso, and Tomas Villa, of Odessa, Texas, might’ve fallen through, but Villa says he’s willing to face El Paso’s hope-for-a-world-champion at a future date. Villa says he had to pass on facing Escalante on Oct. 30 due to the low purse ($6,000) he was offered. Villa was a top contender in 2008, and last fought against Rogers Mtagwa in a fight that many boxing fans considered the fight of the year.
