“War Zone” set for Friday
Las Cruces’ return to pro boxing, after more than two years, is set for Friday night. The card, billed as “War Zone,” promoted by Powerhouse Combat Sports, headlines son of legend George “Monk” Foreman III (1-0, 1 KO), who will take on 0-5 George Burrage in a four-round heavyweight bout. Las Cruces jr. middleweight Austin “No Doubt” Trout (18-0, 13 KOs) will take on returning veteran Marcos Primera (20-17-2, 13 KOs) in an eight-round co-feature. Also slated to fight: Salvador Sanchez (14-3-2, 6 KOs) of Mexico takes on Benito Abraham (10-15-4, 6 KOs); Jennifer Han of El Paso finally gets to make her pro debut, against Melissa St. Ville (0-1-1); heavyweight Aaron Lyons (9-5) fights Charles Davis (17-17-1, 4 KOs) and, pending approval from the New Mexico Athletic Commission, Abie Han (6-0, 5 KOs) could be fighting for the second week in a row, against the brave Sergio Santana (0-0-1). Three MMA bouts are also featured.
Weigh-ins will will be held at Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces at 5 p.m. on Thursday. A live remote with “Radio of Las Cruces” will be held at 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 at The Game Sports Bar in Las Cruces. A press conference will be announced in the next 48 hours.
