Zubia draws in Tacoma
Saturday night at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington: Jr. welters Aaron Schupp and Edgar Zubia, of Hobbs, N.M., fought to a majority draw.
Zubia (now 1-0-1) seemed to have better footwork but his punches were wider, which allowed Schupp (2-2-2) to get inside. After a close first round, Zubia took control with his jab and dominated the second. If Zubia threw the right hand straighter, he could have scored a KO. Zubia then petered out, and Schupp took advantage. Schupp overcame the early deficit to earn a draw.
One judge had it 39-37 for Schupp. The others had it 38-38, same as Fightnews. (Report by Shamus Young, Fightnews)
